Chiang Mai Planning

Apologies for the crappy photo but this is my exact position right now. House to myself, TV on, dog in lap and Lonely Planet guide at the ready. With less than 3 months to go until we fly out to Bangkok, the excitement is really beginning to build and there’s a lot of planning to be done!

Now I’m not one for meticulous planning; well I AM in everyday life but with backpacking I tend to be a lot more relaxed. However my boyfriend and I have booked our flights in advanceΒ and while they are flexible, I really want to roughly plan our route and trip to make sure that we make all of our flight destinations in time. We’re also booking a couple of things before we leave that we think may be booked up by the time we arrive in-city. One of these things is an overnight trip to the Elephant Jungle Sanctuary in Chiang Mai, a non-riding sanctuary for rescued elephants. As part of this, the sanctuary will need to know where we are staying in advance so that they can pick us up. Cue me looking up hostels, sites and activities in Chiang Mai that we can get involved in while we are there; and there is so much to choose from!

I know a few of my followers have recently been to Chiang Mai, and that it is quite a popular and well-trodden route for backpackers now, so I would love to know any advice or recommendations that people have about this wonderful city!!
